We at FILI are deeply distraught by the news of translator Tarja Roinila’s tragic death and offer our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
Tarja had been a member of FILI’s advisory board since 2017. Working with her on the board to assess translation funding applications, we all benefited from her deep engagement with and passion for translation.
Tarja was also active in FILI’s translator training programmes. Together with Laura Pascual, she had been running a multiyear programme to train new Finnish to Spanish translators. The next assignments for participating translators had just been prepared before the sad news.
Tarja also organized “Vice versa”, a Finnish-German-Finnish translation workshop, with Finnish to German translator Elina Kritzokat.
