The annual Finnish state prize, 15 000 Euros, was awarded to David McDuff today. McDuff (born 1945) has translated Finland-Swedish literature into English since the 1980’s, for example Bo Carpelan, Tua Forsström and Gösta Ågren. He has also edited and translated the complete poems of Edith Södergran into English.

WBCO will have particular responsibility for organizing our press conferences in Germany, the first of which will be held in conjunction with the Frankfurt Book Fair this autumn, to coincide with Finnish Literature Day and the birthday of Aleksis Kivi on 10 October.

FILI is one of the co-organisers in the European Schwob project which has received funding from EU’s Culture Programme for two years. The project gathers knowledge on modern European classics that are utterly unknown abroad andaims to find new readers for these in other countries.

The Helsinki Comics Centre and the French publisher Rackham are co-publishing a French-language anthology of Finnish comics entitled “La bande dessinée finlandaise 2013”. The anthology is the third in a series – the previous versions were in English. This time the anthology, edited by Johanna Rojola and Kalle Hakkola, presents the work of 13 female comic book artists.
