Today marks the publication of the first joint Nordic survey assessing the gross revenue generated from the sale of literary rights to the Nordic countries and the Faroe Islands in 2024. According to the survey, literary export revenues from the Nordic countries amounted to nearly 78,5 million euros in 2024.
The purpose of the report is to provide an overview of literary exports in each of the Nordic countries. The survey included questions on the total gross revenue divided by genre and was sent to all agencies representing at least one Nordic author in 2024. In total, 57 percent of the agencies responded.
“It is essential to understand how literary export operates across the Nordic region and how we can further strengthen and develop our export strategies based on these insights,” state the directors of the Nordic literary export organisations.
The survey was commissioned by the Nordic literary export organisations Danish Arts Foundation, FarLit – Literature from the Faroe Islands, FILI – Finnish Literature Exchange, Icelandic Literature Center, NORLA – Norwegian Literature Abroad, and Swedish Arts Council/Swedish Literature Exchange. The study was carried out by an external partner, La&La Creative Agency.
