Five Finnish literary works with exceptional international potential are in the running for this year’s award:
The Gatherers by Elli Salo (Keräilijät, Otava, Rights & Brands)
A Feeling Like This by Satu Erra (Tällainen tunne, Tammi)
Laundry Day by Maija Kajanto (Pyykkipäivä, WSOY, Bonnier Rigths Finland)
Double Soldier by Vera Vala (Kaksoissotilas, WSOY)
Grumpy Girls by Riina Tanskanen (Tympeät tytöt: Luokkakipuja, Into, Elina Ahlbäck Agency)
Founded by Aamulehti in 2013, the Torch-Bearer Prize promotes the export of Finnish literature abroad. The winner receives €5,000 and a place in FILI – Finnish Literature Exchange’s internationalization coaching programme.
The winner will be chosen by author Iida Turpeinen and announced at the Tampere Book Festival in Tampere Hall on Sunday, 30 November.
