FILI has its own residency programme for foreign translators of Finnish literature. The residency programme covers part of the travel costs*, accommodation and a stipend of 300 euros.
In 2020 the residence period is 10.2.–1.3. in Villa Salin (Lauttasaari, Helsinki). Our translators-in-residence 2020 are Laura Cangemi (Finland-Swedish > Italian), Mattias Huss (Finnish > Swedish), Sophie Kuiper (Finnish/Finland-Swedish > Dutch), Tanja Küddelsmann (Finnish > German), Sebastian Musielak (Finnish > Polish) and Michal Švec (Finnish > Czech).
You can apply for the residency if you
- live outside Finland
- translate from Finnish, Finland-Swedish or Sámi into your mother language
- are in the finishing stage of your current translation project and/or require e.g. contact with the author or access to archive or library materials.
Please attach a curriculum and CV to your application. We will prioritise translators, who have a profile with up-to-date CV in Kääntöpiiri.
*) Programme covers part of the travel costs: max 150 euros / Estonia, Russia or Sweden, max 350 euros / other European countries and max 700 euros / rest of the world.
Villa Salin is an early 20th century villa located in the Lauttasaari district in Helsinki, only a 10 minute metro journey from the city centre.
The rooms are fully furnished and come with bedding and towels. Several lounge areas suitable for creative work are at the residents’ disposal, in addition to two showers, three toilets, a fully equipped kitchen, and a laundry machine. The villa is owned by The Feminist Association Unioni.
The residence has a WiFi connection.
Lauttasaari offers a library, shopping centre and other services as well as beautiful natural surroundings.
